This morning as I was seating to check the weather, I noticed that a
piece of mail was either being sent or received.

Since Outlook wasn't opened, I wonder how do I fine out whether that
mail was sent or received?

thanks

How can you know mail sending or receiving was in progress without Outlook
being opened? Did you check Task manager to make sure OUTLOOK.EXE was not
one of the running processes?

If Outlook wasn't open, how did you know mail was moving abouts? Might it
have been a receipt or somethng?

I know that something was either sending or receiving email as the
mail icon in Symantec Anti-virus was on. The icon that shows a
envelope opening and closing..

Did you check your inbox and sent box to see if there was anything new in
either one?

I wouldn't trust the Symantec icon to determine that.
