Default OWA forwarding rule trouble

I use OWA to check my student email at college, but the admin gives us
hardly any room for messages. My inbox gets filled in about a week and
then automatically shut off. I've missed important emails before when
on vacation or simply when I forget to check because the box fills up
so quickly. In order to solve the problem I thought I'd just forward
everything to my gmail account, but I ran in to issues. I have the
option to forward messages (so I don't think that it is disabled...)
and I'm pretty sure I set it up right. Instead of forwarding my
messages to my other email, the messages just get put in "deleted
items" and my other email never sees them. Here's what I did.

....When a message arrives

where the from field contains (left blank)
subject contains (left blank)
importance is (any)

....sent to

people or distribution list (my student email account, the one the
rule is being set up on)
or is sent only to me (not checked)

....then

forward it to (my gmail account)
keep a copy in my inbox (not checked)

I just want every peice of mail that comes to my student email to get
forwarded right on over to my gmail account since I check that more
often and it won't run out of space anytime soon.

Post in an Exchange group - OWA is part of Exchange, not Outlook.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. All
unsolicited mail sent to my personal account will be deleted without
reading.

After furious head scratching, asked:
