Files still left on this newsgroup but can't read
Hi all
I've just finished reading all the unread postings on this ng. Before I started there were 5 unread (5 was in bold in brackets) and nothing would bring them up. Now I've gone through there are now 7 that I can't read. Why is that? |

Outlook Express 6, Brian.
Maybe I'm being too sensitive, but were you rapping my knuckles then? And if so, why? I'm just trying to get an answer and you seem to be the most knowledgeable here... As far as I know I am accessing this newsgroup through my copy of Outlook which is on the Office 2000 CD and now on my desktop. Does that somehow route it through OE? .. I was "rapping your knuckles", since you insisted you were using Outlook 2000 for news when others told you you were really using Outlook Express. I had you prove it to yourself so that you'd stop doubting those who knew better. As far as I know I am accessing this newsgroup through my copy of Outlook which is on the Office 2000 CD and now on my desktop. Does that somehow route it through OE? The so-called "Outlook Newsreader" is simply Outlook Express being run with the /outnews command line switch, which slightly reskins Outlook Express and removes the mail functionality for that particular instance. As such, the proper place to ask questions, is, therefore, the Outlook Express newsgroup, just as I and others told you. This newsgroup is not for Outlook Express questions. news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...xpress.general is. -- Brian Tillman |

Thanks Brian. Please bear in mind that people post questions here because
they need to know something -- ie they are (at the moment) less au fait than you are. I thought I was using Outlook, because that's the icon I use to get into this, in preference to OE which came with my OS, and which I rapidly stopped using for email, perceiving it to be inferior. If someone kind had told me that (and possibly how) I get automatically re-routed to Outlook Express I would have understood. The work you and other MVPs do is very much appreciated but do remember that some people (like the hapless new poster the other day to whom you replied, perhaps a bit tersely, with words to the effect of 'It's been asked and answered dozens of time on this ng, you mutt') are, in comparison *new* and less clued up than you. A bit of patience would not go amiss. And now, if I haven't p*d you right off, perhaps you (or someone else) could briefly explain *why* I get the OE newsreader when I go through Outlook 2000, and what to do about it..
