The Question: How do you configure Outlook 2003 to find the
correct/closest Exchange server. Cause:In the past I used an unattended install of Office and pointed the installation to the correct Exchange Server. Recently I did an hardware upgrade and moved my mailboxes from one Exchange server to another. Any outlook client that had the unattended install would continue to look for the wrong server. This turned into a real pain in the ass. I seem to remember something about Outlook having the ability to find the proper Exchange server on its own. However I can't seem to find the documentation. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with the issue. Thanks. |

If the server on which the mailbox *used* to be, is still up and running, Outlook should find the *new* mailbox server the first time it connects. If the old server is no longer available, or if you did something funky in your custom installation config, this won't work. You'll need to either use a profile generation utility or manually change the profiles. |

Yes. And that is exactly what has happened. What I would like to do is
configure unattened install in the future so that Outlook is more flexible to changes in the environment. Less work for my users and less work for me right!? Lanwench, I guess what I'm asking is what is the proper way to configure the Default user profile so that any new user to the machine will not have to create a new mail profile. In the past I pointed to a specific Exchange server but this is apparently too easily broken. I have also tried to configure Outlook with no default exchange server but this obviously Lanwench [MVP - Exchange] wrote: In ups.com, b typed: The Question: How do you configure Outlook 2003 to find the correct/closest Exchange server. I use roaming profiles (with folder redirection) so the user gets his/her own Windows (and hence, Outlook) profile at login, no matter where they sit. Thanks for the info anyways. I will look into using roaming profiles as well. Lanwench [MVP - Exchange] wrote: In ups.com, b typed: Yes. And that is exactly what has happened.
