Outlook 2000 Rules

In Outlook 2000, is there a way to create a rule in which one action is
to "Mark Message Read?" It's hard to believe that Outlook Express has
that capability and Outlook 2000 does not. Does 2003 have the capability?

I recall that there was a utility somewhere for a custom action, but
when I tried it some time ago, it did not work reliably.

OUtlook Express is a completely different program and has different
capabilities.

I don't believe it, either, because both Outlook 2002 and 2003 have that
action available. I suspect OL 2000 does as well.

As acknowledged in my post. Any suggestions on solving the problem?

each version of outlook adds new actions - mark as read was added in a later
version.

See Diane's response.

Expecting different programs to behave alike is unreasonable. Just an FYI.
