You're still using FLOPPIES? They weren't very reliable, even when there was
nothing else available. Buy a pen drive - no moving parts and far cheaper
per MB of storage than floppy disks....

Thanks Milly, your post was most helpful and answered the question. Thanks
also to gordon, who despite scoffing at my reliance on the old floppy format
(which I have found to be exceptionally reliable), my data is too large to
fit on one single disk, so I will convert to using a pen drive.
