Default Outlook 2007 - Cache Mode

Hi,

Would like to understand a specific function of outlook.

We have users connecting to an exchange server using HTTP over RPC via WAN
connections.

We would like to confirm that when running Outlook ONLINE but WITH Cached
mode enabled that when an ALREADY downloaded attachment (message) is opened
it is opened from the "Cache" (local database / ost) and NOT over the line.

Is this understanding correct?

Thanks in advance,

George

Yes, that's the way Cached Mode works. Any data in the cache is opened from the cache.

What you didn't say is what folder the item is located in. That determines whether it's in the cache in the first place.

Hi,

Does Outlook 2007 / Exchange 2007 Enterprise support for offline caching of
more than one mailbox? Or is it only the "primary" mailbox still?

We have users who open many mailboxes and would want all of them cached is
that possible?

George

Default Outlook 2007 - Cache Mode

Outlook 2007 by default caches non-mail folders that the user has accessed from other mailboxes. It cannot cache other user's mail folders.

Hi,

Your response is confusing:

You indicated that "oulook 2007 caches NON mail folders that the user has
accessed from other mailboxes" and then say .. "it cannot cache other users
mail folders"

Here is the question:
If a users has mailbox rights to multilple mailboxes and adds them to
outlook. Can the OTHER mailboxes other than the primary users mailbox be
cached? Or can a subset of the OTHER mailboxes folders be cached?

Mailboxes contain mail folders and non-mail folders. Only non-mail folders -- contacts, tasks, calendar, etc. -- from other mailboxes are cached. Mail folders from other mailboxes are not cached. I don't see what's so confusing about that.

Hi,

Nothing personal Sue...

Is there a reason why "other" mailbox mail folders are not cached?

Probably performance, but I've never seen a reason given.
