Outlook 2003 crashes after MS Tuesday Update

Hi,

After this MS Tuesday windows auto update (12FEB07) I myself and some other
users in the office has problems starting Outlook 2003 - Outlook simply
crashed, afterwards ask if you want to start in safe mode, replying yes
crashes Outlook again and then Office wants to do a Detect and Repair -
either one of hese solutions solves the problem.

I use IE 7 and so does the other users who have the same problem so I
suspect a realtion here... though I would expect a bigger uproar if this was
a general issue.

Our CRM software SalesLogix v. 6.2 SP4 also crashes with the same
kernel32.dll error - so maybe a mix of IE 7, Outlook 2003 SP2 and the
SalesLogix version?!

The Outlokk crash event logged is Event ID 1000

Outlook 2003 crashes after MS Tuesday Update

Thanks Kathleen,

Tried re-applying but result is the same - Outlook crashes with a
Kernel32.dll fault.

To re-aplly was not straight forward though - simly running
Office2003SP2-KB887616-Client-ENU.exe simply exits with a "Allready applied"
in Add/ Remove programs (with updates selected) it does not allow to remove
SP2 and re-apply - so here is what I did.

I extracted the files "Office2003SP2-KB887616-Client-ENU.exe / C" and then
ran the MAINSP2op.msp itself - this install exited with "Applied
sucessfully" - so I guess that is the right way to re-apply SP2?

Any other suggestions - I saw you in another forum asking someone if he had
IE 7 installed - do you know of any issues here?

Looking at the 12 MS security updates for February:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...ns/200702.mspx

I do see KB918118 and KB932554 touching Office and KB928090 touching on IE -
I suspect any one of these to be the trouble makers - I will start
un-intalling those 3 and see what happens.

Any suggestions in the meantime?

Thank you,
Jeppe

Check for Add Ins or COMs that could be at fault. Are you connecting to an
Exchange server? What happens if you turn off Cached Mode?

Outlook 2003 crashes after MS Tuesday Update

Hmm - uninstalled all hotfixes/ updates from the 14th - same problem with
starting Outlook. On top of it I now get an error now when I try to access
the Email Profile control panel.

The rundll fails to load MLCFG32.CPL

I will re-apply fixes and revert with the Cached Mode optione disabled.

Outlook 2003 crashes after MS Tuesday Update

Thanks Kathleen,

I do believe it is a Add-in problem as I created a new profile without
cached exchange - the profile crashed at first but asked if I wanted to
disable my failing SalesLogix Add-in (Slxab32.dll) - after replying Yes
outlook started.

I will apply latest service pack to our CRM installation and see if that
takes care of the problem.

Thanks for helping me think ;)

Sincerely,
Jeppe

Did updating SalesLogix fix your issue? I am seeing the exact same
error, and we use SalesLogix here.
