Can't send message from imap

Hi,

I have been having problem in sending messages to other people from imap
account.

I have two machines with outlook 2003 sp2, one with Exchange account and one
with pst pop accounts. I have added an imap account to both of these
machines. However when I come to send mail for testing,
1. From the imap account I can send and receive mail to myself.
2. Cannot send or recieve mail to anyone else. Having the error saying

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.
Subject: testing from imap account

Sent: 23/02/2007 12:35

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

testing ABC on 23/02/2007 12:35

550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for

3. Also the sent item ended up in the default email account's Send item
folder and not in the imap account's sent item.folder

Question is :

1. Can I have Imap account from one server and Exchange account from another
server using the same outlook 2003
2. Can I have Imap account from one server and pop accounts from another
server ?
3. If 1 and 2 are legimate then what else do I have to set to able to send
to other from Imap account and the sent item or any respective (e.g. delete,
outbox etc) are reflect in Imap account instead of the default accounts.

Many thanks,

Smiley

You're not properly authenticating to the outgoing server and the domain of
the sender address you're using doesn't match the domain of the SMTP server
you're trying to send the message through.

3. Also the sent item ended up in the default email account's Send
item folder and not in the imap account's sent item.folder

You'll need to use a rule to do this. All outgoing mail will be saved to
the Sent Items folder of the delivery location folders without one.

1. Can I have Imap account from one server and Exchange account from
another server using the same outlook 2003

Yes.

2. Can I have Imap account from one server and pop accounts from
another server ?

Yes.

3. If 1 and 2 are legimate then what else do I have to set to able to
send to other from Imap account and the sent item or any respective
(e.g. delete, outbox etc) are reflect in Imap account instead of the
default accounts.

IMAP protocols have no concept of a "Deleted Items" folder. Instead, when
you delete an item in an IMAP folder, the server marks it for deletion in
whatever folder holds the message, drawing an overstrike through the
message's header line to show it. You can't change this in Outlook.
Outlook will never use the Outbox of the IMAP folders, because there isn't
any. IMAP is an inbound protocol only. Outbound messages use SMTP, just
like a POP account and will use the delivery location's Outbox to hold the
message until the SMTP server accepts it, when it will be moved to the Sent
Items folder of the delivery location, unless you disable that option and
instead use rules to move outgoing messages to the folders of your choice
based on sending account.

If you set up the IMAP's outgoing server exactly as you set up the POP
account's outgoing server, you should eliminate the relay problem.

Also how would a setup rule to move deleted message to a designated folder.
I have tried the rules but there is nothing which I would set staight away.
I am still finding info on 'perform custom action'. On the action which is
empty and don't know how to set say 'move' or 'copy' into the action drop
down menu.

I don't know of any way to move a deleted message on an IMAP server to
another folder using a rule.

ToolsOptionsE-mail Options. Uncheck "Save copies of messages in Sent
Items folder". Certainly you could have found that for yourself in about
ten seconds.

and use rules to move outgoing messages to a folder
of my choice ?

ToolsRules and AlertsNew RuleStart from a blank ruleCheck messages after
sendingNext. Select the conditions you want and click Next. Select the
"Move a copy to the specified folder" action. In the Step 2 pane, click
"specified" and specify the folder where the messages should move. Click
Next and follow the remaining prompts.

Can't send message from imap

Hi Brian,

Thank you for your patience and time. Sorry to ask so many simple questions.
I am very green on this and just have no idea what and where to look for
setting. Now as it turned out I have been looking at the wrong place for the
setting.

As regard to the rules. I did tried that before I post to the group but it
seems to have different effect from the pop accounts so naturally I thought
I might have done something wrong as I am very green and never see it works
previously.

Thank you again for your help.

Regard,

Smiley
