I know that this is not a Usenet group but I wonder if anyone can help me
find a Usenet group that does not cost a fortune.
I have had internet access for over 10 years and enjoyed the newsgroups via
freeserve then wanadoo until just over a year ago they cut off the service.
I then had an unsolicited offer from news.ak47erg to use the Usenet
through them for a one off payment of £8 (or thereabouts). This has now
expired as well.
I have tried to find a reasonably priced access but the cheapest I have
found so far was $10 per month, that is too much for me.
If anyone can point me to a cheaper access then I would be grateful.
I am using Google for some of them now but it is not very satisfactory, it
is clumsy and limited.
Thank you.

Text only or binaries? If the former then this...

.... is supposed to be the bee knees.

Binaries? You'll have to pay through the nose. Giganews is probably
the biggest.

HTH.

Wrong. It is a newsgroup. However, it is NOT a newsgroup about
newsgroup servers, and Outlook never has and probably never will support
NNTP (network news transfer protocol) so your post is off-topic.

find a Usenet group that does not cost a fortune.

For Microsoft products, use their free NNTP server: msnew.microsoft.com

For cheap good access: individual.net, $10 euro/yr (about $14USD/yr)

For cheap but unreliable access: aioe.org (free)
(flaky, unstable, and the owner is playing with goofy anti-spam quotas
and posting rules [that he doesn't publish] that don't follow standards)
