My provider has a very good spam checker which labels mail. I can set up a
filter to send such mail, which also does not come from anyone in my address books, to a folder for checking later. I don't want either the sound or notification when this happens, but I do want both of these when 'good' mail comes in. Is there a way? -- Jim S Tyneside UK http://www.jimscott.co.uk |

The new-mail notification triggers when new mail is received and before the execution of any rules. That means the new-mail notification (and sound) occur despite whatever rules you have defined. No fix for what you want. |

No fix for what you want. Sound wise, you could have your rule moving stuff first on the list (which it should be) and have the 'Stop Processing More Rules' action (which it should have) and simply put a rule below that that plays a sound for *every* message. Since the messages firing the first rule won't fire any other rules, you'd only get the sound for messages not going to that folder. The notification, otoh, I think you're mostly sol, at least when it comes to the systray. You could look at the other actions on the rules and maybe one will be a suitable replacement for the onscreen representation of new messages (like the Display Desktop Alert, which would show the toast, or Display a specific message in the New Items Alert window, which would give you a more permanent on-screen notification). I guess, if you wanted to write your own application, you could use the perform a custom action to add the systray icon, but you might want to just disable/hide the systray New Mail icon and just deal with the desktop alert and alert window from above. -- f.h. |

Unfortunately Thunderbird's rules set sucks worse than Outlook Express', and neither come close the to capability of the rules set in Outlook. As already mentioned, you can simply disable the new-mail notification option and instead use a rule to pop open an alert window at whatever point in your set of rules where you want the popup to occur. Actually, if you have critical e-mails that you must know have arrived, the popup method is better since you can often miss the non-animated envelope icon showing up in the tray area of the Windows taskbar. |
