Default Can't send e-mails using Outlook 2003

I just loaded Outlook 2003 on my computer yesterday and I can send an e-mail
to myself, but all other e-mails I send are returned with an error message
"not allowed". Does anyone know why? Thanks!

Are you using an outgoing mail (SMTP) server that's on your ISP's network?
Otherwise you might get the error you're seeing

Yes. My ISP is adelphia and the incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) is the
same: mail.adelphia.net. I know all of the settings are correct, but for
some reason adelphia is telling me that this is a microsoft issue.

Thanks!

Do you have the text of the error message that you're getting?

Yes, it's...

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'Posso, Jaye' on 8/1/2007 10:04 AM
550 relaying mail to SCOTTSDALEAZ.GOV is not allowed

And, I get this message whether the recipient is at a yahoo.com,
sbcglobal.net, gmail.com address, etc.

Does Adelphia require authentication to their mail server?

That's normally the error you see when you're not on the network containing
the SMTP server you're trying to use.

They specifically told me not to check that box when I was setting everything
up.

When you say "not on the network" do you mean not on the adelphia network?
Does that mean I would only be able to send e-mail using their webmail
service? I can receive e-mail via Outlook no problem...the problem is just
sending them. Also, why would I be able to send an e-mail to myself without
getting the error message, but not to anybody else? Because they're no using
adelphia e-mail? So, is this an adelphia problem or Microsoft problem?
Thanks!

You must be on the Adelphia network to use their SMTP server in your
Outlook. If you are connected to the Internet via an ISP other than
Adelphia, you can't use their SMTP server.

Are you on the Adelphia network while trying to send mail?
