Auto export mailbox to PST????
A former co-worker, that I can't find, found a product that would auto-
dump a users Exchange Mailbox to a PST every time they closed Outlook. Anybody got any idea what he might have been using? Just found out my company deletes all email older than 21 days from our mailbox, AND has been so kind as to also disable the Auto-archive feature in Outlook.... I'd rather not use Option B, which is to deliver mail to a PST and use the MS tool to backup that PST, if I can help it. Thanks! |

One option is to setup a rule to have a copy of all incoming email put into a Personal Folder.
I think another larger issue should be addressed. Why would your company not want the maibox to retain their data. It allows the data to be accessible and backed-up if there were ever an issue, once moved to a Personal Folder this may not be the case. I would suggest, that you speak to you IT Department manager to discuss their reasoning behind this policy/procedure. Unfortunately the company I work for is far too big and far too stupid to do things correctly. |

I'm curious, is there any reason why your company only retains 21 days worth
of mail? wrote in message ups.com... A former co-worker, that I can't find, found a product that would auto- dump a users Exchange Mailbox to a PST every time they closed Outlook. As our agency and other companies/agencies/corporations are now finding, the email system is subject to e-discovery and archiving/retention/psts are now subject to greater corporate and especially legal scrutiny as many nuggets found in email can win or lose a lawsuit.
It is a very large issue than can, and has, cost many corporations millions of dollars, not just as a settlement, but as a result of having to search and recover mail items saved to various locations without cause. -- Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook] Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. All unsolicited mail sent to my personal account will be deleted without reading. I think I may have been confused and the co-worker was using pfbackup
to dump PSTs for their POP mail to a server. I have heard, just through rumor, that the company makes saving email difficult for legal reasons, as someone else mentioned. I'm a Systems Engineer and I don't save email for legal reasons, I have it for CYA mostly... I can work around their restrictions, it's just a pain in the ass to do it...
