Default Red Crosses - Outlook 2003

Quite often when I view a sent message in Outlook 2003 there is a blank
placeholder with a red cross in the corner. I know that the image is there
because it reappears when I forward the message.

What is the fix, please?

Gareth

I don't know what would cause it, then. Perhaps someone else will be able
to assist.
