How do I connect to our Microsoft Exchange server for my emails?
 

I have installed Outlook 2007 and it will not connect to my company's
Exchange server from my house. It will connect though if I'm at the office.

My IT guy said everything is configured correctly on my machine. What am I
missing?

It's hard to say wtihout knowing your configuration for remote access. Do you
have a valid internet connection? Are you using VPN? Are you being challenged
for your credentials? When your IT person tests your remote access, does it
work? Are there any error messages and/or numbers?

I go to account settings and ask it to repair and it comes back with Problem
Connecting to Server. I do have a valid internet connection and have no
problem with other internet capabilities. What's VPN? No challenge for
credentials. My IT persons says everything is setup correctly.

You generally need a VPN (Virtual private Network) to connect to an Exchange
server outside of the office. Otherwise try Outlook web access....

You don't say what version of Exchange is in play here. Your IT person is clearly not competent if he says everything is okay from his end if you cannot connect from your end.

How are you trying to set up your Exchange account? Please post the exact steps you are taking.

You are off-domain from your corporate network when trying to connect
to their host from your home. It is likely that they require you to
use a VPN and use it when you are home. This is a secure connection
to their network so you can get at their internal hosts. Obviously
they don't want just any joker wandering in to use their mail server.

I spoke with my administrator this a.m. and tells me we don't have a VPN. It
still doesn't know why I can connect at the office but not at my home.

sigh because the office is on the domain server, your home is not.

Version Exchange is 2003 Small Business. My access is via http.

Here's how my computer is set up.

Security Certificate installed from Exchange Server
Server = caysvrsbs.caymusvineyards.local
Cached mode enabled
Connection via HTTP
Proxy server is https://caymusntsbs.caymus.com
msstd:caymusntsbs.caymus.com
Basic Authentication selected


Please advise as to what to do now.

I'm having exactly the same problem. I've copied all of my server
settings from an older computer with Office 2003 and I can connect
when in the office, but not from anywhere else. We do have a VPN, but
according to my I/T guy he's added my new system to the list of
approved computers. We're running Exchange 2003. I'm at a loss.

Then it is highly unlikely that your company permits you to connect to
their internal hosts from the outside, like from your home. You'll
have to do your work e-mails at work. Or you'll have to find someone
smarter at your company that knows how to setup VPN to let you connect
to their network using a trusted path and which makes you look like
you are on their network. Or you will have to wait until they choose
to implement OWA (Outlook Web Access) to provide HTML web interface to
your Exchange account. Until then, you aren't going to connect to
their internal host from the outside.
