I have just ordered outlook 2007 to replace the 2002 version i use. Can i
just direct outlook 2007 to my existing pst file or will that be incompatable? Is there a recommended way to make the upgrade? I couldn't find an upgrade version of outlook 2007 so this is a full version. Hope you can help! M |

However, you'll still be limited in how much data you can store. The Outlook 2002 PST can be no more than 2 GB and some people experience problems above 1.5 GB. You should consider transferring your data to a new format PST, but you can do that at your leisure after getting OL 2007 set up and operating. In order to upgrade, uninstall the prior version and then install the new version. The use the Mail applet in Control Panel to create a new mail profile, pointing it at your existing PST and then adding your accounts. Often, installing OL 2007 creates a new mail profile that is damaged and many of us find it cleaner to create out own new profile. The installation may also create a new PST which can mask the existing old PST, and that's another reason to create a new mail profile and point it at the correct PST. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

And, FYI, there are no upgrade versions of Outlook. They are always full versions.

What does "point it at the correct PST" mean and if I uninstall my old Outlook are you suggesting all my old data from OUTLOOK 2002 will still be on my machine? I'm about to make this leap, but this conversation makes me very nervous. I know just enough to be dangerous.... |

Outlook versions prior to OL2003 use a different format data file. This file
has a size limitation. In your current OL2002, check properties of Personal Folders, this will show path and file name of the data file. Uninstall OL2002, your data will be retained (just like uninstalling Word, it doesn't impact on docs) Install OL2007, during the install you will have the opportunity to create a new data file, do so, do not let the install use the old data file. Then test OL2007 account settings, assuming all ok. Within OL, FileOpenData File......browse to the file & location previously noted. Then if required copy data from the old data file to the new. Finally either leave the old data file open, or close it. "GreatDay" wrote in message ... "Brian Tillman" wrote: Zapcat wrote: I have just ordered outlook 2007 to replace the 2002 version i use. However, as with any operation, stuff CAN happen, so take a backup first as a precaution. As Brian said - after installing 2007, go to Control Panel-Mail. Create a new profile in Show Profiles-Add. Then in Data Files add the old pst file to that profile. |

Where can I find information about uninstalling Outlook 2002. It is not
listed in Change/Remove Programs or in Add/Remove Windows Components. Treeheart "Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook]" wrote: And, FYI, there are no upgrade versions of Outlook. Hi Gordon:
Thank you. I found that by going into Add/Remove Programs, clicking on Office and the Change, I was able to delete the old version. I appreciate the tip.
