Outlook 2007 - default SENT ITEMS Folder
 

Hi,
I use Outlook 2007, SP 1 with IMAP acees to my coporate mails (no
exchange server).

I may choose the standard local pst SENT ITEMS Folder or any folder
from the IMAP Folder list.

I choose the local folder.

The saving of a sent e-mail is not noncontinuous:
- Sometimes it saves mails in the local pst
- sometime on the SENT ITEMS Imap Folder

Questions:
a) Can you please advise, on how I may choose any Mal Folder in my
pst.
b) How is this odd behaviour caused (sometime saving in the defined
location, sometimes not)?!

One of my users is having the same issue. We are using IMAP, and I always
set the sent mail to save in "Sent Items" under IMAP but intermittently
saving on the Local/IMAP.

It would be great if somebody give us a solution.

I wish I could contribute towards a solution, but i can't.
I am just registering my interest here as there are at least two cases of this occuring on our system too.

One machine has the service pack 1 installed, the other doesn't.

As with the other cases posted so far (is this correct or have i assumed incorrectly?), our IMAP server is not an MS Exchange Server.

My understanding was that the Sent Items folder in the same folder set where
the account's Inbox is would be used, but I have to admit I haven't set up
an IMAP account in Outlook 2007 yet.

in the local Sent Items folder are those sent by the "Sent To Mail
Recipient" function or those sent from within another program, like Excel?

I know from memory that one of my users often sends emails with attachments with the send to recepient function from word/excel, however the other user experiencing this problem on my system informs me that he only ever sends emails by either 1. creating a new email in outlook 2. replying to an email or 3. forwarding on an email message.

Looking at the contents of his sent item boxes both of them contain messages which have been newly composed so there doesn't seem to be a direct correlation to the emails that are mis-filed and the way the emails were created. Assuming what i've been told by my user is accurate.

I have to agree.
It does not make a difference. In some cases it is saven on the IMAP
SENT FOLDER in others in the local (pst) sent folder
My setting though is to save the sent messages into the local sent
messages folder.
-- this is very irritating as I never know where to look for outgoing
messages.


Brian, in addition. in 2007 you can specify in an IMAP enviroment the
sent items folder, either online (any folder) or local in the SENT
ITEMS folder. BUT on the pst you can not choose a specific folder of
choice.

How many accounts do you have? If more than one, in addition to the IMAP
account, what type are they?

I checked user1's account settings and saw that there's a dormant pop account configured from back when there was another unrelated problem with the system. I got pretty excited at this point, I thought you may well be on to something. But then when I checked user2's account settings only the IMAP account affected is configured and listed.

Off-hand, I can't think of what may be happening, then. If I do think of
something, I'll post it.
