Junk Email Filters
HI
I currently run outlook 2007 on my windows xp pc. Despite regular updates, the junk email set to the highest level and an extensive blocked senders list my junk email filter does not work. I had this problem with the previous version of outlook (2003) prior to the upgrade. I cannot find any support online. Any suggestions please. Many thanks Simon |

Am I being stupid or is it right under my nose? |

... Simon wrote: Look at the top of the listing... check "show updates". Are you talking about uninstalling the Junk E-Mail feature itself, or a filter update? I don't believe you will find an entry in add/remove programs to remove the Junk Mail "feature" of Outlook. |

I don't believe you will find an entry in add/remove programs to remove the Junk Mail "feature" of Outlook. If "Show Updates" is checked, it's obviously an UPDATE. Such an update appears every month. If you UNinstall it, you have effectively uninstalled the filter itself. No matter. What I told the OP to do WILL fix the problem. He might have to do it again sometime. I've done it maybe 3 times in the past 18 months. |

... If "Show Updates" is checked, it's obviously an UPDATE. Right, but in your first post you said "Uninstall the Junk filter". If you UNinstall it, you have effectively uninstalled the filter itself. It sounds like you are saying that removing the junk filter update will disable/remove the entire junk mail filter feature. Have you tested to know that for a fact, or are you just making an assumption? |

Verify that you don't have your own address listed as a Safe Recipient.
There is no need to keep an extensive block list since junk addresses in general are only used once. Only add an address when you repeatedly get Junk Email from the same address and the filter doesn't block it on its own already. -- Robert Sparnaaij [MVP-Outlook] Coauthor, Configuring Microsoft Outlook 2003 http://www.howto-outlook.com/ Outlook FAQ, HowTo, Downloads, Add-Ins and more http://www.msoutlook.info/ Real World Questions, Real World Answers ----- "Simon" wrote in message o.uk... Look at the top of the listing... check "show updates". You are being less than accurate in your wording. This will not, and I quote from your earlier post, "uninstall the Junk filter". It will allow the uninstall of the most recent update. It's a terrible thing to be both grumpy and wrong. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

Have you tested to know that for a fact, or are you just making an assumption? Sometimes the installation of a Junk E-mail filter update causes the Junk E-mail folter to stop working properly. Uninstalling the most recent update, restarting, and allowing Windows Update to reinstall it usually corrects the problem. Uncle Grumpy could have been less terse and explained that. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |
