Default Importing from a CD

I saved my Contact folder using Outlook's Export to a CD. When I use Import
or Outlook Data File, I receive "File Access is Denied. You do not have
permission required to access the file F:\Contact.pst" (F drive is where my
pst. folder is).

Can someone shed a light on my problem? Thank you. MC

The file was set "READ ONLY" when it was written to the CD and Outlook
cannot open a read only .PST file. Copy this file back to a folder on your
hard drive where it will NOT OVERWRITE any existing .PST files, right click
the file, select "Properties", deselect the "Read Only" box, then DO NOT
IMPORT IT! Open it from within Outlook using 'File|Open|Personal Folders
File'. You can then use the file as-is, or drag and drop it's contents into
your default .PST file. Importing a .PST file does two things, it loses
data and it almost always corrupts your Outlook profile.

Thanks for your quick response. This is what happened:
From the Outlook folder on the HD, I right clicked & unchecked the Read-Only
attribute. I press apply & a dialog box appears that reads "do you want to
apply this change to this folder or apply to all subfolders and files as
well?" I clicked "subfolder..." and opened up Outlook using File/Open/Outlook
Data Files (showing Personal Folder File under File Type) and nothing happens.

Incidently, the attribute box is checked again when I re-open properties.
What did I do wrong?

Right. Let's start again.

Thanks for your quick response. This is what happened:
From the Outlook folder on the HD,

What are you doing in the Outlook folder?
Copy the pst file into some OTHER folder, NOT the Outlook folder. Why?
Because it eliminates any possibility of overwriting the existing pst file.

I right clicked & unchecked the Read-Only
attribute. I press apply & a dialog box appears that reads "do you want to
apply this change to this folder or apply to all subfolders and files as
well?" I clicked "subfolder..."

That's because you are right-clicking on the FOLDER and not the FILE as in
the original instructions.

and opened up Outlook using File/Open/Outlook
Data Files (showing Personal Folder File under File Type) and nothing
happens.

I suggest you start again......

Did you read the bit about not overwriting any existing data file?
You use Explorer to select the File and then adjust properties & not the
folder which is what you appear to have selected

Hello
there is a special add-in for MS Outlook for synchronizing PST files on
different computers. It can use both e-mail synchronization and
synchronization using any external removable media, such as harddrives, CDs,
flashcards. You can review it he
