Outlook with Exchange
 

I have outlook 2003 running with an exchange

I have about 20 folder. I have about 4 folder have a hand under them
and the rest do not

What does the hand mean and how do i remove it

Outlook with Exchange
 

Normally a hand means that something is shared, however that isn't the norm
in Outlook even in public folders. Are you sure it's a hand or is it an arrow
that indicates it's set to synch with the server (usually done if you use a
laptop and take it off the network to use elsewhere)?

Are you sure you're looking at Exchange mailbox folders, and not Windows
folders? I've never seen an Exchange folder with a hand under it, but it is
certainly possible to browse Windows folders from within Outlook.

However, if you really are seeing an indication that a mail folder is
shared, the obvious answer, I guess, would be to go into the properties for
the folders and turn off any sharing that might be there under the
Permissions tab.

I also see this. It has appeared on 3 folders so far. All folders were
created after OL07 and SP1 installed. 2 folders that have a hand (personal
and intercall), are subfolders of a folder that also has a hand (folder
called info). 2 more subfolders of info do not have hands. I never shared any
of these folders, their permissions are all the same (also check their
properties). The 2 subfolders with hands are the newest folders, and I never
saw a hand before I created the personal subfolder.

I do see hands for my shared tasks, and calendar folders, however, I expect
to see the hands on those folders, I shared them.

ok, figured it out (at least for my situation). for the 3 folders in
question, even though share permissions for anonymous and default were set to
none, default had share permission "folder visable", unchecking that, removed
the hand.
I would guess that I accidentally check folder visable (for some strange
reason), and the new folders inherited that permission.
