Is there a quick and easy way to filter the contact list by just one
category?

I know about Current View | By Category. That gives me
expandable/collapsible list for all categories. I just want one
category and I would prefer the list not be cluttered by all of those
other lists.

I tried Advanced Search (Ctrl-Shift-F) | More Choices | Categories |
Check one or more categories | OK | Find Now. In the status bart at
the bottom, it says "75 items", but in the list pane that opens up
below, it says "There are no items to show in this view".

Apparently the search is working. Why won't it display the contacts
selected?

Try just putting the Category Name in the Search box...

That method gets the wrong result. In addition to the contacts
assigned to that category, it also gets any contacts that have that
text string anywhere in the record. One of my categories is "Family"
and another is "Office". Both are vary common words.

Well it didn't here. I have a category called "Cell Group" I put that in the
search and the TOP result was the list of the category "Cell Group". The
other answer is to export to Excel and sort there....

What happens if you add the string "Cell Group" to some field (eg,
Notes) in a contact that is not in that category?

Exactly what type of search are you doing?

When I type a string in the "Search Contacts" field, it returns every
contact that has that string anywhere in the record.

If you are getting to look just in the Categories, I would like to
know how you did that. If not, then it's not what I need.

PS: I'm using Outlook 2007, if that makes a difference.

Expand the Instant search by clicking the pair of down arrows. Click Add
Criteria and choose Categories or type category:="cat_name"
in the search field, replacing cat_name with the name of the category you
are searching for.
