Did you change anything about the configuration of the mail account? What
SMTP (outgoing mail) server are you using? "Mike Hollywood" wrote in message ... Hi, I've been using outlook for years, and a couple of days ago it stopped sending email. I can still receive email. 550 relay errors in general occure when you are not authenticating
properly to your SMTP server. Check to make sure your SMTP server dosent require an SSL connection or authentication of some nature. Then make sure in the preferences for that account that the same requirements are indicated. |

when i test accout settings, there are no errors,
"find outgoing smtp server ... completed" all others are completed, too. so... I removed the account, shut down outlook, re-opened and reconfigured the account and the same error msg pops up when I try to send something. here's what I get: The following recipient(s) could not be reached: ' on 3/22/2006 3:33 PM 550 relaying mail to gmail.com is not allowed ?? The test message isn't conclusive evidence that your settings are configured correctly. Click ToolsE-mail AccountsNext, select the account through which you're sending, click Change, then More Settings. On the "Outgoing Server" tab, check the box that says "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and see if that helps (which is what Mcspec was telling you you should do). -- Brian Tillman |

sort of, I am connecting to the web via wifi from
various places, with a cat 5 cable from a dsl router ocassionally, and also via dialup, and then launching outlook. I get the same problem no matter how I connect. I get on the net first, then lauch outlook, then try to send. If I go to the web sites where my email accounts are, I can send from there. You may be onto something. My ISP is in florida, and now I'm in New Jersey. Does that matter? Mike "Rich Cervenka" wrote in message ... I had an idea this moring, winsock. So I got the winsock2 repair utility,
ran it, rebooted, etc. Same problem. Receives fine, but won't send. ??? I set up the same email accounts in outlook express to see what happens and the same thing happens. Receives, no send. How is it that I can send via the newsgroup client? There may be a clue there. Thanks for the reply. Sorry I was'nt more clear about what I did. You said:
---"My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and see if that helps---- I tried that when Mcspec suggested it. I turned it of and on 3 or 4 times, rebooted inbetween just in case. I also tried every other combination of checked boxes on that screen. That's why I deleted the account, and set it up again, etc. I checked with bellsouth just to be sure I had the smpt server name correct, and it is what that say it should be. I also use it, outlook, to manage a fastmail account. fastmail.fm is the site. It always worked, too, and it stopped working the same way bellsouth did. Receives, and no send. Both accounts worked flawlessly for a long time. Mike "Brian Tillman" wrote in message ... I am having a similar problem that started on the 22nd (actually happened
once before a week earlier and by a fluke it started working again) and have tried everything I can think of. I posted an original message a little while ago before I noticed you'd had a similar problem. I'll be watching to see if you work this out and I'll let you know if I find a solution. I read on another forum another lady was having similar problems. -- CPA with an IT background "Mike Hollywood" wrote: Hi, I've been using outlook for years, and a couple of days ago it stopped sending email.
