best way to move OL data from Win98 to WinXP
 

I'm upgrading 15 machines from Win98se to WinXPsp2. What's the best way to
keep the OL (mso-xp sbe)files, settings, etc. for each machine? Each
machine(person) uses OL a little differently. They would like to keep all
they're settings without losing any data. I believe 'exporting' only
transfers the contacts but I'm not sure. What about signatures, calendars,
email(saved, inbox, etc.)? If I can copy specific files, from where in Win98
(do I find them) then to where in WinXP (do I put them) so they will open
and work properly? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Making 15 people
mad is not a good thing. Brad

You should be able to export the entire mailbox to a PST:

In addition to Ms. Orland's suggestion for backing up the data, the Office
Save My Settings Wizard can save your account data and restore it after the
upgrade.

I've got an issue and question. I copied the 'Outlook.pst' file from the
Win98 location to the WinXP location after the upgrade. When I open Outlook
everything appears to be there (a good thing), but when I try to send an
email and use the address / contact book I get an error message:

The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated
with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or
deleted, or you do not have permissions. For information on how to remove
this folder from the Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft Outlook Help.

How can I fix this problem? Using 'Microsoft Outlook Help' isn't much good
because I don't know where to start looking for this particular problem.
Should I "not" put the file where it belongs in WinXP and then let WinXP /
Outlook ask me where it's at the first time I start Outlook?
Like I mentioned before, It's not my machine and my data but it's my
responsibility (kind of).

ps;
some guys are using OLE instead of OL. Do you have any recommendations for
that?

Thanks for the input Brian,
I'm not sure of the exact steps I followed because I didn't write them down
but I think I did something similar.
I deleted the address book and imported it and everything is working now.
Again thanks for all the input, it helped me solve my problem plus what not
to do on the remaining Pc's.
