In O2K, if you drag an email message into the tasks folder, it duplicates
the message but also converts the original message into an attachment within
the task. Can someone advise me how to get that behaviour back in OL2003,
pls.

Try ctrl+drag or right click + drag to get attachments. It won't do both
though - you can get one or the other.

sigh Well, at least I got _half_ of the functionality back, although with
the added extra step since the Tasks are no longer accessible in the folder
pane so can't slide directly but carefully have to right-click and drag to
tasks icon down at bottom which opens the tasks in the navigation pane and
then up to the tasks at the top (M$ = 1 step forward, 2 steps backward with
version changes lol).

Unlike O2K, although I get my original message with attachments, yes, he
body of the message doesn't also get dumped, visible below the attached
message. This means that I have to open the email each and every time I
need to consult the context email sigh.

Still, can't lose the attachments so have to live with the loss of the
message unless I train myself to copy the contents of the email first before
the click and drag business to the tasks folder sigh. Might have to do
the extra work since it will be more work to open up every single email
message each time we need to check something. We must keep the attachment;
we don't need to access it vs. needing to see the content of the email.
(Why does M$ do these types of things?? There is no gain in this loss of
functionality. Unless I'm missing something [pls, pls let it be that I'm
missing something g])

Oh, yeay. I figured out how to get that; tricky that there's more than one
"folder view".

So I can drag directly that way.

But that view loses me my favorites - and there's no Outlook Bar anymore ...
or is there?? Maybe there's something that's replaced that that isn't just

Just drag to the buttons on the navigation pane - it will open in the right
form type.

If you need the message readable and the attachment, drag it so it opens the
form with the text in the body,. Drag the message to the open form to add it
as an attachment. Or just drag the attachment to the open form. You can drag
attachments right from the reading pane to the form.

That's too much work - just drag to the button at the bottom of the nav
pane.

no outlook bar - there is the shortcut pane but its not as useful. If you do
it my way, you can have your favorites and drag to other folder types. If
you need to save it to a different folder (like Tasks 1) use the Move to
folder command instead of save and close.

Okay, I must be doing something wrong because I get either one or the other.

Whether I choose to drag all the way down to tasks button and then all the
way up to tasks option via the navigation pane (careful, can't let the mouse
accidentally go with all that travelling around!) or whether I drag directly
into the tasks folder via the folder list (oh, where's my lovely Outlook
Bar!!!!), I either get the message with the attachments stripped or I get an
attachment with the original email including its attach doct but NO email
text, unlike O2K which gave me both _and_ without the fancy, schmancy
footwork vbg.

When I hold the control button down and then drag, no attachment and just
the message. No options present; the message gets converted to a task,
stripping all the attachments.
When I right-click and then drag, only a pure attachment of the original
message appears but no view of the message itself though I do get 3 options:

1. Copy here as task with text (no attachment, _only_ the email message
with a reference to doct(s).)
2. Copy here as text with attachment - nope, only attachment, no text
whatsoever.
3. Move here as text with attachment - nope, again, only attachment. No
text.

Perhaps there's another way of doing this where #2 actually does work (?)

We really need to get the O2K functionality back completely. They've given
our department the responsibility of tracking all messages coming in to the
general mailbox. We need both items since the documents they're sending
need to stay with the task yet we don't have time to be opening each one to
get the rest of the information.

The option to have both attachments and text does not exist in newer
versions. You get one or the other, not both. You'll need to do it in two
steps - open the task by dragging so you have text in the body, then drag
either the message or the attachment to the now-open task.

no need to run all around the screen - just drop on the button at the
bottom.

See http://www.slipstick.com/Tutorials/tasks/tasks.htm - I drop the message
on the button. Since I want the attachments in the message included, I
either need to add the message or the attachments to the task. The insert
item button works well if the message you want to insert is at the top of
the list, otherwise, drag and drop it. Or select all or one of the
attachments in the reading pane drag to the task form. (It's easier when
your screen is bigger as you can open the windows side by side, but I wanted
to keep the window small for the video. )

Yeah, but how? When I right click and drag I get 3 options, which
don't work the way they should. Either I get the whole message
bundled up, which includes the attachment (but no message text) or I
get just the text with nothing attached.

When I drag directly, I get _only_ text. No options come up at all.
Control drag doesn't change that.

Oh, brother, double-drag??? Drag the messge one way so that I get the
text and then drag the attachment into it?

Well, if this reduced functionality in OL2003 means that that's the
only way, then that's what I'll have to do. I jsut have to really
hope that the general mailbox doesn't received very many messages on
any given day because that's going to get very old, very fast sigh.
