Default How do I get email in Outlook Express on an XP machine into Outlook2007 on Windows 7 Machine?

The instructions for importing Outlook Express files from another
machine assume that Outlook Express can be run on the target machine. I
don't believe there is a way to do that on a Windows 2007 machine. So
How do I accomplish this?

First of all, please note that this is an Outlook newsgroup, not an
outlook express one. Outlook and outlook express are two very
different programs. You should ask outlook express questions in an
outlook express newsgroup since that's where the outlook express
experts hang out and where you are most likely to get the help you
need.

Secondly, you are right that outlook express can not be run on a
Windows 7 machine. However, depending on what e-mail client and
newsreader you run on the Windows 7 machine, they can very likely
import and use the outlook express files.

Download and install Mozilla Thunderbird and import your Outlook Express
files. Alternatively download and install Windows Live Mail. The main
difference is that Thunderbird will remove the messages from the server to
your computer and WLM will act as if you were using any web based e-mail
client. Your call.

Which cannot be either exported to or imported into, Outlook without a lot
of work.

Not true. ONLY if the OP is using Hotmail. Any ordinary POP mail provider
means that the OP can choose either.

My question IS an Outlook (2007) question. I am setting up Outlook 2007
on a Windows 2007 machine and I need to import from Outlook Express on an
XP machine. Why is this not an appropriate question for this group?

Download Windows Live Mail on the XP machine. Import OE mail.
Download Windows Live mail on the Win 7 machine. Transfer the WLM to it.
Then export in WLM to Outlook. (It says Exchange but don't be misled!)

Not to strenuously disagree with what you wrote, but you are replying
to me, who does not have the problem, not to the original poster.
Please always reply to the correct post.

Thunderbird and WLM are just two of the *many* available choices.
Which one will be best for MikeH depends on him and how he uses such
programs. My recommendation is that he try several and decide for
himself which works best for him and how he uses them.

If you are using Outlook on the new machine, fine, but the content of
your message did *not* mention that at all. I now see that your (very
long) subject line mentions it, but my recommendation is that you
never rely on a subject line to contain any vital information. It is
too easy to miss it there, as I did (especially if it's buried within
a long subject line).

Thanks to all for your help. I ended up using Windows Live Mail as an
intermediary and got the job done.
