I have a user that at times thinks Outlook is not up and clicks on it
agsin. Now there is another outlook.exe in the task list. None put up a
screen and so none are usable. I have to end all of them or log off and
back. Is there a solution to prevent this idiotic situation?
Why would outlook.exe be up but no screen. User keeps trying and at
times I have seen 8 copies running. W7 w Outlook 2007.

Is the outlook icon present next to the clock in the system tray area? If
yes, then they could have the option on to hide outlook when minimized.
(Just right click on the icon in the system tray and see if there is a check
next to hide when minimized.)

The ICON is present but that is not the problem. Hide when minimized
is not set and they never minimize it. The rabble is they sing on, try
to get mail. that fails for one reason or another, they end Outlook,
they start it again. IT does not seem to come up or they do not wait
long enough. They try to start it again, and again, and again, etc.
Outlook does not like that at all. I do not understand why it does not
r3efuole to start another instance in the same logon when one is
already running and I do not understand why the screens never come up?
As noted, the only solution at that[point is to one at a time end the
outlook.exe tasks or log off which ends them and them log on again.

Then there is a 3rd party solution installed that is opening Outlook behind
the scenes or not letting it close properly. There is no hard and fast rule
of what it could be, but some of the things I have run across that keep
Outlook resident is:

1) PDA/Phone sync software (this would include iTunes)
2) Fax software
3) Poorly written Outlook addins (e.g. some antivirus hooks in this way)
4) Adobe Acrobat (full version and not the reader as it includes an Outlook
addin that I always remove)
