Using multiple ids in Outlook 2002 in non-Exchange environment
 

Is it possible to set up Outlook 2002 to use 2 ids in a non-Exchange
environment (Earthlink) and have them both displayed at the same time? Is it
possible in a POP3 setting or does it need to be set up as IMAP? If they
cannot both be displayed at the same time, how do you switch from one to the
other?

I'm not sure what you are referring to here as two "id's". You can certainly
have two independent profiles but you can't run two instances of Outlook at
the same time. You can also share access to an IMAP account but the same
applies.

If by "id" you mean "ISP mailbox", then certainly. Create a POP account for
each. They'll both be delivered to the same Inbox.

I'm referring to 2 separate email addresses used by the same person. In an
Exchange environment, I can have multiple ids all available in the same
Outlook session. I'm trying to find out if Outlook can support that kind of
thing in a non-Exchange environment and, if so, how to get about setting it
up and accessing it.

The problem with that approach is that I do not want the 2 email accounts to
use the same Inbox. And I would like not to have to choose which email
account is to be displayed when I start Outlook. In an Exchange environment,
I can have a number of email addresses available in the same Outlook session.
I'm trying to determine if Outlook supports that in a non-Exchange
environment and, if so, how to set it up and use it.

me, that implies both in the same folder set, since that's how Outlook
ALWAYS presents multiple POP accounts. ANything else requires rules to
separate the incoming messages.

choose which email account is to be displayed when I start Outlook.

Outlook will display them both.

In an Exchange environment, I can have a number of email addresses
available in the same Outlook session. I'm trying to determine if
Outlook supports that in a non-Exchange environment and, if so, how
to set it up and use it.

One account for each mail address you want your senders to see.

Multiple POP accounts are certainly supported. Many if not most users use
multiple accounts with no issues. You can use rules to move email according
to the account if you like. Filterign the Inbox based on account can also be
used. Outlook 2007 offers built-in control over the delivery location. There
might be a public beta available soon you can sign up for.

To keep email from multiple accounts totally separate then use separate
profiles - one for each account.

Is setting up separate profiles going to require choosing a profile to get to
the inbox? I'm trying to avoid that, and it can be done in an Exchange
environment. I want to know if home use of Outlook via an ISP can also have
multiple separate inboxes available in the same Outlook session on the PC. I
have been using multiple email addresses on POP3 with Outlook Express, but I
want Outlook to have the calendar function. And I would prefer not to have to
get out of Outlook and back in with a different profile to get to a 2nd email
account. Is all of that possible? If so, how should it be set up? I have
looked through a lot of Microsoft articles without finding an answer.

I guess the only way to know whether what you are talking about is the same
thing as what I am asking about. In attempts to set this up, I have not seen
what I want. But I am certainly nowhere close to being an
experienced/knowledgeable Outlook user. Any tips on getting what you are
talking about set up in Outlook?

Just add all the POP3 accounts to the same profile and use rules based on
the account to move email to separate folders.
