Upgrade from OL 97
 

Is there any way I can upgrade from OL 97 to a newer version without having
to buy the whole office program? All i need is outlook because i just got dsl
and they wont support my email if i use such an old version of outlook. any
suggestions?

Sure. You can buy OL 2003 for $90 from amazon:

I don't know what support you need from your ISP. In my opinion you can
use any email programs. How about Outlook Express that comes with IE6
FREE OF CHARGE?

If I were you I would save the $90 and go to my nearest restaurant for a
fantastic meal for two!!

I'd be surprised if your ISP supported OL, any version, they usually only
say they support OE
PS the reason for none support of OL is that it is more than just an email
app

That's usually the case but not always. The advantage is that Outlook
2000/2002/2003 has better POP3 account support than what can be provided for
Outlook 97.
If the ISP doesn't support a Outlook then general support is much greater
than with Outlook 97. If someone has an issue with Outlook 97 then it is
unlikely that a response will be given here - it's just too old.

I've never had an ISP not support Outlook.
Mine currently only goes back to Outlook 2000 though.

And 'support' is subjective. They clearly will help with email connectivity
and that's about it.

Must be your location, over here the more popular ISP's only support OE
mention OL and they go.........
