Offline Address Book
 

I've upgraded my PC to Office 2003 from 2000 and am now having trouble
connecting Outlook to my Exchange server. Launching Outlook, I get the
following error:

"Unable to open your default e-mail folders. You must connect to your
Microsoft Exchange Server computer with the current profile before you can
synchronize your folders with your offline folder file."

Checking the knowledge base, I think I have a problem getting synched with
the Offline Address Book feature. However, nothing in the KB seems to point
to my specific problem, and trying related resolutions hasn't gotten me
anywhere. Any advice?

Sounds like you need to add your Exchange account to your mail profile.
Control Panel's Mail applet will do that for you.

I've added my profile (and removed it several times) in trying to fix this.
Still has the same error. I've even deleted my entire desktop profile to
make sure I was starting from scratch. Still no luck.

Sounds like you need to add your Exchange account to your mail profile.

- re-imaged my PC from 2000 Pro to XP, upgraded to Office 2003; took all
defaults (but don't recall if any specific Outlook info was requested)

- via the control panel Mail app, added my mail profile; after putting in
Exchange server name and my name, Mail app resolved my account (underlined
name and fully qualified server name); finished app w/o error

- launched Outlook, saw the error as described before

- deleted and recreated mail profile as described above, same error;
repeated a few times

- uninstalled Outlook 2003, installed Outlook 2000; launched and connected
without problem

- upgraded to Outlook 2003, same error as before

- deleted my entire profile on the PC to make sure there was no .pst or
..ost(?) conflicts; recreated PC and mail profile, same error

- I have limited access to our Exchange server, event logs shows nothing

- I can access Outlook via our Citrix server so the mail account itself is
working
