The account that wouldn't die!
I've been having trouble with my Outlook2002 file (under WindowsXP
Pro), especially since the Windows security patches I installed yesterday. In particular, I have a user account that is apparently damaged, and which cannot be deleted. When I open Outlook, an "Enter network password" dialog box appears with three lines: Server pop3.frontiernet.net User Name POP3.frontiernet.net Password ********* Changing the user name to my actual FrontierNet username, retyping the (correct) password, etc. just causes the box to reappear with the entered changes. Cancel does cancel, but I get a Send/Receive error: Task 'POP3.frontiernet.net Account - Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC92) : 'Your e-mail server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password in your account properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts. The server responded: ?RR authorization failed' The three characters before the word "authorization" seem to be different every time, often nonprinting characters. When I gointo Tools... Accounts, there are two accounts - my primary email, and one entitled POP3.frontiernet.net Account. When I Remove this account (intending to recreate it from scratch) I get the usual "are you sure..." dialog and then a popup box saying "access is denied". (!) I'm the only user and have not set any privileges. The account remains, but attempting to view its properties gives a message indicating that the account has apparently been deleted. Closing and opening Outlook resurrects the account, with the same problems. Adding a third account with the identical properties to the apparently faulty account seems to work and to send and receive mail... but I still get the "Enter network password" box unless I go through the delete-account ritual each time. Any suggestions? I'll be glad to trade some free Access support in exchange! g John W. Vinson[Access MVP, Outlook tyro] |
