Cache mode vs non cache mode

When I uncheck cache mode I receive all my meaages - over 28000 items. in
cache mode I only receive 15458 items and no new mail is delivered. My ost
file is 3.20GB but my mailbox is 3.99GB. I am in Unicode mode. I am running
Outlook 2003 against Exchange 2000.
