I'm installing Outlook 2002 to go along with Active Sync for my ppc 2003
Premium. Here is the error message that comes up after Outlook is installed: Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Outlook requires Microsoft Outlook Express 4.01 or greater. You can install Outlook Express by running IE5Setup.exe from the IE5 folder located on your CD or through the Windows Update website. So, I look around my computer and discover that I do have Outlook Express, but I figure I'll install IE7 just to be sure. After the install my Outlook Express shows that it's version 6, but I still get the message. I uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook 2002 to no avail. What the deuce, yo? (also, I've yet to install Active Sync) |

IE7 doesn't include Outlook Express.
What operating system are you using? Reason I ask is that about the only thing I could suggest w/out knowing operating system is to take a look at http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;320863 and see if you have the registry key mentioned in method 2. Well, I'm using Windows xp home edition (2002 service pack 2). Additionally,
the instructions seem to be for Outlook 2000 and MS Office 2000 (not sure if that matters). Also, I don't have the Custom Installation Wizard as part of my Office Resource Kit Tools (I don't have a Resource Kit). I don't know if I had that registry key, but I went ahead and added it, with no improvement to the situation. What baffles me is that I, in fact, DO have Outlook Express 6 installed and I'm able to use it and make it my default email program (though I don't actively use it). And, when I tried to download Outlook Express from Microsoft's website, I was directed to install IE7. Nothing about this situation makes sense to me. You do have OE, but Outlook doesn't think so. Try removing and reinstalling
OE; you do this from Add/Remove Programs|Add/Remove Windows Components. There may be other Registry settings involved that removing and re-installing OE might correct. I gave that a shot and had no results. I even had Outlook Express running
while I tried to run Outlook 2002 and it still gave the same error. This is really buggin' me out. "Hal Hostetler [MVP-P/I]" wrote: You do have OE, but Outlook doesn't think so.
