I used to read my favorite NG in Outlook XP. Is it still possible in the
office 2007 edition? Francesco |

how the land lies now? i read that windows vista has a new version of
outlook, in the packet "windows mail" that is not "hardlinked" to internet explorer. is it possible to use it in windows XP? well, this question has such an origin: somehow i don't have outlook express on my PC, i tried to download it and install, but the installer said that i have too new version of internet explorer, i.e. 7th. is there a way to have a native newsreader now in winXP? i tried many agents but only outlook express i consider usable. thanks. Use OE (since that's what you probably were using anyway) or some newsreader of your choice, like Forté Agent. |

Windows Vista contains WIndows Mail, which is the replacement for Outlook Express. Outlook has never been "hardlinked" to IE. Outlook Express, however, is, and so is Windows Mail. is there a way to have a native newsreader now in winXP? i tried many agents but only outlook express i consider usable. Outlook Express is the ONLY native newsreader in Windows XP. Windows Mail is the ONLY native newsreader in Vista. Outlook has NEVER need able to read mail without help (from either OE or WM or an NNTP add-in that you buy). -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

YES, yes, i know it, i meant outlook express everywhere in my post. but due to the news i read windows mail isn't hardlinked, well, that doesn't matter really. I wonder if there is or there will be a newer version of express for windows XP, that means: can we download now or in the future windows mail as a separate product? to use it under XP. coz because of internet explorer 7 i can't install express repetitively now. |

Outlook Express V6.0.2900.2180 is, I think, the last version of Outlook Express. Every Windows XP installation comes with a release of Outlook Express V6 so there's nothing you need to deploy. Whether you have IE 6 or IE7, you'll also have OE. Windows Live Mail might suit you as an add-in. See http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

NOPE! i said i have not OE, it was deleted or something and i can't reinstall it because installer says IE is too new. this is why I'm asking: is or will there be a possibility to install Windows Mail on Windows XP. |

In Control Panel's "Add or Remove Programs," select "Add/Remove Windows Components." Scroll until you see "Outlook Express". If it's unchecked, check it and click Next, then Finish. If it's already checked, uncheck it, click Next, then Finish. Reboot, then go back and readd it. this is why I'm asking: is or will there be a possibility to install Windows Mail on Windows XP. I don't believe there is any independent install package for Windows Mail on any platform. You could try Windows Mail Live, as I suggested, however. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

okay, thanks. kinda bad news, why not release windows mail? it seems it's
just a way to make people buy Vista. it's not fair, vista is not a good OS.
