HELP PLEASE ANYONE!
When Outlook froze it offered to save work by directing mail to a new folder "Outlook Today". It has a duplicate set of personal folders but addresses are still in the old personal folders. I have tried the recommended way of turning this off; properties/uncheck "show home page by default for this folder". It is unchecked but mail still goes to Outlook-today! If I select properties/close folders....I get a message that I cannot close a folder that contains personal folders/contacts and POP3 mailbox. How can I get back to the mail going to the ordinary inbox and get rid of Outlook Today. A step-by-step explanation would help (semi-technical level of competence) Thanks |

Hi,
First of all, do we have a 'plus' sign next to "Outlook Today". Try clicking on it (if you have one) and check if your mails are present in the folders below. Outlook Today is a front end for Outlook where-in you have the different sub-folders for Calendar, Inbox, sent items and so on. Now, apart from the 'Outlook Today-Personal Folder', if you have anymore Personal Folders in the Folder list which actually contains your old email files, peform the steps below - Tools -- Email Accounts -- View or change email accounts -- next -- and select the concerned 'Personal Folders' from the field 'Deliver new emails to the following location'. Once selected, click Finish and close and restart Outlook. Now, check if the 'Outlook Today-Personal Folder' has all your emails. Rgds, Mittu "Eljay" wrote: HELP PLEASE ANYONE! Thanks very much indeed for replying Mittu,
Unfortunately this does not seem to help. Yes, there is a plus sign and the mails come and go from Outlook Today. The original "Personal Folders" with the old e-mails are still present. We want mail to come and go from these Folders. NOT Outlook Today. Your suggestions................ "Tools" offers "Accounts" then "Mail" "POP3btconnect" with "properties"/Add/Remove" (The options as you describe don't exist) HOWEVER......... If I right click The old "Personal Folders icon" then "Properties" There is a check-box for "Deliver POP mail to this Personal Folders File" I check it, click, apply, OK, exit and re-enter Outlook and it has reverted. In fact as soon as I close the Properties box the check box unticks. BECAUSE? The same properties box in the "Outlook Today" Personal Folders IS CHECKED, GREYED-OUT & INACTIVE. It cannot be UN-checked as the delivery box. How can I UN-check it please Many, many Thanks eljay "Mittu" wrote: Hi, First of all, do we have a 'plus' sign next to "Outlook Today". Hi,
I assumed we were working on Outlook 2002/2003. In Outlook 2000, when you enable a personal folder as the default email location, and restart Outlook, the Outlook would automatically change the delivery location and then the new location would be automatically addressed as 'Outlook Today-Personal Folders'. And at a time, you could only have one Personal folder acting as your default email delivery location. So once you select a personal folder, and restart Outlook, Outlook-Today would be tagged along with it when displaying in Outlook. Rgds, Mittu. Thanks again Mittu for replying.
It is Outlook 2000 I realise that only one Folder can be the delivery location. I am trying to help a neighbour (who is even less technical than me) with this. They don't want the "Outlook-Today" Folders . We just want one set of "Personl-Folders" with NO "Outlook today" as it always used to be. How do I get there.....Please? Hi,
(1) Personal folders when assigned as the default email delivery location, they will be assigned/tagged with "Outlook Today". This is something coded in Outlook 2000. So no matter which pst file/personal folder you select as the DEFAULT email location, it would be tagged along with "Outlook Today". (2) Once a personal folder is selected as the default folder, automatically the box you are referring in the properties would grey out. So, if you need to change the location, you will need another Personal folder file under your Folder List, where-in you could enable that box (In the Properties Tab) and restart Outlook. Note - when you do so, Outlook again tags "Outlook Today" to the newly assigned Personal Folder. Also, do you have the Office 2000 Disc handy? Hi,
Once you have selected the required Personal Folder as the default delivery location for emails, for which Outlook tags 'Outlook Today', you could close the rest of the Personal folders by right-clicking on the others and chosing 'Close Personal Folders'. This should help you to remove the remaining files from the Folder List. Rgds, Mittu "Eljay" wrote: Thank Mittu, OK, as you will see in my reply to Brian, above I can accept this new name "Outlook Today" . Thank You Brian for replying,
It's true, I probably don't understand what "Outlook Today signifies" But it didn't used to be there, and we don't want it. We certainly don't want these 2 sets of folders. Since it never used to be there, how can it be that whatever set the delivery folders are it must always call itself Outlook Today? But perhaps I am getting bogged down in a name. The real problem is. We don't want 2 sets of folders. How do I get Contacts as well as messages all into one set of folders and obliterate the other set please Thanks eljay "Brian Tillman" wrote: Eljay wrote: Thanks again Mittu for replying.
