Default Outlook Security

I need to allow a user to use a 3rd party piece of software to access email
addresses. The outlook security update prevented this so we edited the
registry to allow Outlook 2000 to do this, now that we are using Outlook 2003
the problem has begun again. The registry key that we altered was
"HKey_Current _User\software\policies\microsoft\security\checkad minsettings"
this key doesn't exist for outlook 2003.

Can anyone help please?

You have to create the necessary keys. See http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup/admin.htm

Thanks for this, do these instructions apply to Outlook 2003 as well as 2002?

THey apply to all versions of Outlook from Outlook 2000 SP2 on. Each version, of course, has its own key. Outlook 2003 is Outlook\11.0.
