I have Windows 2002 OS originally using Office 2002, now upgraded to Office
2003. With both Office packages, the autocomplete does not work in Outlook in the "To", "cc" or "bcc" fields at all. When I originally asked this question, Microsoft Online gave instructions to close Outlook, open explorer, view folders, and make sure hidden files or folders was checked. Then do a search for a file named *.NK2, once located, rename it "profilename.bak". I completed everything but the search for the NK2 file came up empty. There is no NK2 file. I researched this through many blogs, search engines, etc. and either they gave the same instructions or had never heard of this problem. I just downloaded the latest updates to both Microsoft and Office to make sure that this issue was still a problem and it is. I had one computer tech tell me to make a new file and label it "Outlook.NK2" which I did in "c:\documents and settings\application data\microsoft\outlook" and I sent an email to myself as a test, then tried my email address again and it worked but once I restarted the computer or just closed the Outlook program, it no longer worked. I still had the file but it was empty. This is a configuration that has been available on any other Outlook program I have used and never was an issue. I have another computer that has Windows 2002 and originally had Office 2002, upgraded to Office 2003 and this feature works and has never been an issue. What can I do? |

It is not possible to have no NK2 files if autocompletion is enabled and
functioning. So that would mean your search technique is flawed. Creating an "NK2" file manually is just nuts. That was bad advice. The problems you are reporting are very common and have been addressed here many times. The problem is a corrupt connection between your Outlook profile and the NK2 file and are usually solved by creating a new Outlook profile. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Laura@CNA" wrote in message ... I have created a new Outlook profile. Before writing this post I went
through everything I could find regarding this issue and you responded to quite a few of the questions although I never found a posting specific to my question. I will do a new profile again and see if it works this time but can you clarify something? You say that it is impossible to not have a NK2 file if autocomplete is enabled and functioning. My problem is that autocomplete is enabled but not functioning at all and when I search for the file there is NONE (even within hidden files/folders) so your initial response confuses me. What corrupts the actual forming of the file? The bad profile or something else? Thanks for your time and knowledge. But you said that autocompletion _did_ work, then failed after a restart.
Did you mean that? That's the symptom of a lost connection between the profile and the NK2 file. Having no NK2 file whatsoever in that scenario is inexplicable and not reproducible that I am aware of. Make sure you do not use AV scanning of email. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Laura@CNA" wrote in message ... I have created a new Outlook profile. Ok, I did it again and with the new profile it appears that the autocomplete
does work. Can you explain or direct me to where I can find how to copy my Inbox folder (specifically the subfolders) to the new profile? Your assistance has been great. Thanks.
