incoming emails not visible
I have Outlook installed and working on in one user on Windows XP. I have
now set up Outlook for a second user/second email address, and I cannot see the Inbox for the second user. In this second user I can send and receive emails (checked with a web email client). I can see the outgoing emails in Outlook, but I cannot see the incoming emails in the Oulook screen. I am using Outlook 2003 on XP. The ISP and email service for both users is Blueyonder (Virgin). I am using POP3 for outgoing, SMTP for incoming. I have set up both users with the same parameters, just varied by email address. I have basic Norton security protection on the PC. |

Thanks for the response, Brian.
To answer your first question - I see nothing in my Outlook Inbox. (I do see all my Sent messages in my Outbox. And I can see all my Incoming Mail in a web email screen, outside Outlook.) What is strange to me is that my wife, who was set up as a different User, using all the same settings, in this XP system prior to me, is able to use Outlook completely - In-and Outbox. You suggest I should rip out Norton. A couple of questions: - Isn't it odd that my wife is getting no interference from Norton? - Which of the following Norton functions corresponds to what you call "mail scanning" that I should disable: Personal Firewall or Intrusion Firewall (and there is also Spyware Protection) - Can you recommend a replacement security system that doesn't interefere? Again - thank you for your time. Bob Phillips "Brian Tillman" wrote: Bob Surbiton Bob wrote: I have Outlook installed and working on in one user on Windows XP. If I were you I'd rip Norton out yesterday and add something that won't interfere with my PC. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

You shouldn't see ANY sent messages in Outbox. You should see them in Sent Items. What Navigation Pane view are you using? You suggest I should rip out Norton. A couple of questions: - Isn't it odd that my wife is getting no interference from Norton? Nothing about side-effects when Symantec products are installed surprises me. - Which of the following Norton functions corresponds to what you call "mail scanning" that I should disable: Personal Firewall or Intrusion Firewall (and there is also Spyware Protection) None of those seem to be the mail scanning function. Mail scanning isn't usually a firewall function, but an antivirus or antispam function. - Can you recommend a replacement security system that doesn't interefere? I use an earlier version of ZoneAlarm (when it was free) and AVG without the email scanner. My router has an internal firewall as well. I also use Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware, Windows Defender, and have used SpamPal as well as the built-in Windows firewall. Avast also makes a good antivirus program that can be configured to not interfere with Outlook. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

Thanks for the further reply, Brian, but I guess I must not have been clear.
The problem is that I do not see any of my incoming messages in my Inbox. What is working is my Outgoing mail - I see all of the messages I have sent in my Sent box. (All of these functions are working perfectly well for another user on the same computer - my wife - who has her Outlook set up the same way as mine.) I would still apprciate help with this. Dear Brian
Thank you for you continuing support. I am afraid that did not work. I opened Outlook with the /clearviews switch and then I sent an email to myself (from my wife's email address). I can see the incoming email on a webmail application, but I cannot see it from Outlook. (I continue to be able to see my outgoing messages from Outlook.) I would be very grateful for any other suggestions. I keep feeling that since mt wife's Outlook works perfectly well in all respects on this same computer it must be possible to make mine do so too! May I wish you a very Happy Christmas, and hope that we can continue this investigation afterwards. (I am due to retire from my company in January, at which point I hand in my company computer and email address and will be dependent upon this working.) Thanks again for your help. At last, the answer. It was "_2" missing from the user name, because I am
the second user on the computer. Thank you for your persistence, despite the wild goose chases. Does this mean that Symantec is reprieved?
