office 2007 using pst but wont work with pop3????
i just built my parents a new vista buisness machine. Everything setup fine
and need to install office 2007 enterprise for them. They currently use cox.net email and i grabbed the pst file opff there old windows 2000 machine. In the initial setup the cox.net account setup up fine. the import of the pst file wnet fine too. once tried to add the address book something went wrong. before that however the cox.net account went out to the server and downloaded all of the new emails into a new pst file. Now for some reason i can send an email just fine from the account but can not recieve any. I tried remopving and adding the accounts and uninstalling office. the pst files held onto being the default, and the cox.net account has the "make default" option greyed out. since this machine is in the very beginning of it use i could start over from scratch and reinstall vista and everything else??? I am just wondering if there is some hidden file or setting i need to modify to get this working instead of that. thanks, nathan |

You never import a PST file to transfer it. You corrupted your Outlook
profile. Create a new profile from scratch and use one of the supported methods we post here every day to transfer your data. http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.htm http://www.howto-outlook.com/Howto/backupandrestore.htm http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/as...771141033.aspx -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "nathan" wrote in message ... i just built my parents a new vista buisness machine. You probably corrupted your Outlook Profile in your method of migrating data
from old pst to new. That being the case uninstalling/reinstalling Office wont help. Create a new Profile, add the data file & accounts and test Not sure what you mean by add address book, unless you mean show contacts as an address book Nor do you mention the version of OL on the old PC "nathan" wrote in message ... i just built my parents a new vista buisness machine. I understand that this is a problem but i do not think this is the reson i can't get server settings for their cox.net account. is it possible that i didn't completely remove the profile. i am very pc savvy but this seams to be getting a bit higher up there in the set up. or i am being retarded. |

You have introduced a new unrelated issue. Two things you need to understand
to help you accomplish this: 1. If Outlook's email account autodetection feature fails, dismiss it and configure your account manually. Personally, I never use account autodetection. It's a good idea that was poorly implemented. 2. Outlook always creates a new default PST file when you create a new profile. When you read the instructions I posted you will discover that you then have 2 choices: a. Open your old file and set it as the default for this profile. You will then be able to close the new file. b. Open your old file and copy the information you want from it into your new default. This second option will allow you to upgrade to the new PST file format now used by Outlook 2003 and 2007. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "nathan" wrote in message ...
