Outlook 2003 stops responding and fails to start in safe mode
I had to format my C: drive and reinstall all my software this week.
Initially Outlook 2003 worked fine the, suddenly, it stopped responding and got me to send a report to MicroSoft. I tried to restart Outlook but it came back with same error. It eventually wanted to start in Safe Mode but the same error occured. It then tried repair, but that didn't work either. I used Add/Remove programs and took off all of Office 2003, defragged the C: drive and reinstalled. No luck I'm still getting the Not Responding and failure to start in Safe Mode. Any ideas anyone? |

The first thing to do is hit the "Details" button on that "Outlook had to
close" message and post what it says here so we can get a feel for where the error might be. That's probably mspst32.dll and this file deals with Personal Folders (.pst)
files. I believe I'd try creating a new Outlook profile with an empty, new Personal Folders file. If this works (Outlook opens normally), try opening the old .PST file with 'File|Open|Personal Folders File'. Thanks for that Hal.
It turns out that the real problem is a corrupted CD with Office on it. I've tried another one and it cured the problem, thanks very much for all your help.
