Hi.
I have HP iPAQ hw6500 PDA with Windows Mobile 2003. When I connected it with my PC (Windows XP SP3) first time, run ActiveSync, chose Standard Partnership, sync with desktop comp, and chose to synchronize inbox, it began to sync my folders. After that process a new folder ‘Outlook e-mail’ is created on my HP, but e-mail account is not created automatically. Is it a normal situation? And if it is, how can I create an account, that will be linked with ‘Outlook e-mail’ inbox? THNX |

That's pretty much normal behavior. The iPAQ's "Outlook" account is not an
email account, it's a synchronized copy of your desktop Outlook folders. You send and receive by syncing. Outlook Mail you send from the iPAQ is synced with the desktop Outbox and is sent to the Internet from there; Outlook mail you receive is synced from the desktop Inbox. So, no email account because it isn't required. Hal -- Hal Hostetler, CPBE -- Senior Engineer/MIS -- MS MVP-Print/Imaging -- WA7BGX http://www.kvoa.com -- "When News breaks, we fix it!" HI!
OK, so if I want to send messages via PDA, I have to create account on my PDA, and this new account won’t be linked with my “Outlook” account? Let’s say I have a business trip and I want to use my PDA to correspond. Before trip I synchronize my PDA with my desktop. During trip I send messages from my PDA account. At the end of this trip I have “Outlook” folder with old messages, and “Account” folder with new ones. Am I right? So, how can I upload this data to desktop after my trip? I think it is not difficult to synchronize incoming mail– I can leave incoming messages on server and download it to my desktop. But how can I synchronize messages that I’ve sent during the trip? Thanks for you help! "Hal Hostetler [MVP P/I]" wrote: That's pretty much normal behavior. OK, so if I want to send messages via PDA, I have to create account on my PDA, and this new account won't be linked with my "Outlook" account? That depends on the email account you use desktop Outlook to connect to. Pocket Outlook is designed to do only one thing, synchronize, either with Outlook on your desktop PC, or with an Exchange Server email server mailbox. That means ALL sending and receiving is done VIA sync. When you send messages with Pocket Outlook, they go into the Outbox where they sit until you sync with either of the above. Now, this doesn't prevent you from creating an email account that talks directly to your email server. If your email service is from either a POP3 or IMAP account, you can setup an account on the PDA to check it directly. The advantage is instant email flow, the disadvantage is that this is strictly email, your Contacts, Tasks, Notes, and all other items that Pocket Outlook syncs with desktop Outlook remain unchanged. Let's say I have a business trip and I want to use my PDA to correspond. Before trip I synchronize my PDA with my desktop. During trip I send messages from my PDA account. At the end of this trip I have "Outlook" folder with old messages, and "Account" folder with new ones. Am I right? So, how can I upload this data to desktop after my trip? No, you'll have an Outlook folder with old messages you got from the sync before you left, and new messages to send VIA sync to your desktop when you sync upon return. If you elect to add an account that directly tallks to your email service, you'll have two folders, one for Outlook that has no email changes, but may have new Notes, Contacts, Tasks, etc. awaiting sync with desktop Outlook, and an "ISP Account" folder with email items sent and received while on your trip. When you return, desktop Outlook will pick up the email changes when you connect it to your email service and then sync them with the Pocket Outlook folder, along with any other sync items you may have changed on the PDA while away. This is how I had my Toshiba e740 PDA setup. When in the office, all sending and receiving was done VIA sync with desktop Outlook. When away from the office, I setup an IMAP account pointed at the same service I use with desktop Outlook, so my email was always current, but any Contacts, Notes, or the like I created sat on the PDA until I returned to the office and synced it with deskop Outlook. I think it is not difficult to synchronize incoming mail- I can leave incoming messages on server and download it to my desktop. But how can I synchronize messages that I've sent during the trip?
