Unable to configure profile
We have a user that was using Outlook 2003 to connect to his mailbox on an
Exchange 2000 server. When we upgraded him to Outlook 2007 we began to get the behavior I describe below. We were able to get him working again by uninstalling Outlook 2007 and reinstalling 2003. We thought the problem was with the newer client app and the older server. We recently upgraded to Exchange 2007 and migrated all mailboxes. We uninstalled Outlook 2003 and reinstalled 2007 thinking that would fix the problem he had. It didn't. I have tried everything I could find on the internet plus uninstalling/reinstalling Office 2007 several times. Here is the problem he has; When you attempt to create a profile by either opening Outlook for the fist time or by using the Mail icon in Control Panel, it gets to the second step (Search for server settings). But when the server name and mailbox name are entered we get a message stating "The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action." When we click OK another windows comes up asking for the server and mailbox information again. The information already in the boxes is correct except for one thing. The mailbox info has "=SMTP:" added to the front of the user's email address. We've tried leaving that and taking it out then clicking OK. We've tried using the server IP address. Nothing works. We've tried doing a manual setup and also turning off cached mode. I've tried all the solutions on the internet related to registry settings that need to be added or removed. None work. Outlook Web Access works just fine for his mailbox. We are not using Outlook Anywhere currently. All other users have no problems (using Outlook 2003 and 2007). Anybody have any ideas? |

I share this problem with a bit of a twist. When I walk through the process
on my Windows XP laptop, everything goes to plan. When performing the same operation on my Vista machine, I get stuck at ""The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action." when I attempt to "Check Name" as the last step on that set up window. Frustrating.
