Outlook 2010 Beta Lock ups
 

Just installed Office Professional 2010. Outlook keeps locking up. I can
get it to start, although slow but once I click on a folder is just churns
away and nothing happens. I have to then shut it down and restart it. I
have a number of pst files. I have tried removing them and starting with out
them but that did not solve the problem. It locks even when clicking on
tasks. Not sure how to resolve it.

Well, several more hours have gone by and I have been all over the internet
reading forums without a clue as to what the problem is. Now, when I start
Outlook I get a message across the top of the screen stating, "Upgrade in
Progress Your mailbox is currently being optimized. Performance may be
affected while this one time optimization is in progress." Unfortunately, MS
did not think of putting a progress meeter in so I have no clue as to if it
is actually doing something. In any event, there is no performance during
this time as the curser is just spinning away and I can't do anything. I'll
let it go till morning and then its back to Office XP for me.

If you upgraded from Outlook 2002/XP then it is highly recommended to
recreate your mail profile and to convert your pst-file from ANSI-format to
the Unicode format. For info about this see;

Only perform the last if you do not wish to go back to Outlook 2002 anymore
since Outlook 2002 cannot read Unicode formatted pst-files (this requires
Outlook 2003 or later).

Due to changes in the indexes of the pst-file, Outlook 2010 will indeed
first need to write these additional indexes. In general, when this dialog
is gone or when there is no indication of it still running in the Status
Bar, then it is done.

Also note that any add-in that you might have installed could be causing the
crash when they are not compatible with Outlook 2010 yet (which are quite a
lot currently). Also note that Outlook 2010 is still in a Beta version so
you could encounter quite a number of issues. This is why it is never
recommended to already use it in production and with production data. It is
advised to only use it in a test environment and with copies of production
data to do your testing with.
