imprting database in reinstall + keeping journal entry links tocon

I reinstalled Outlook after my PC crashed.
Imported the backup file.
Now all links between journal entries (meeting, phone, task) for each
contact have been lost. (Not sure what the correct technical word for this
linkage is...maybe 'assignment'?)
For a contact, I should be able to go to the Activities tab and see all the
notes I made during my 'Phone' or 'Email' conversations, as well as followup
'Tasks' that were assigned by me.
How do I get the 'linkage' back?
Thanks
ND

Look around. There are countless posts in this newsgroup admonishing you
never to import Outlook data. Doing so loses a lot of information, including
all links. Read the other posts to see what else you've lost and how to
avoid it.

Russ:
Unoftunately, I got to this community only AFTER doing the unthinkable!
The techies in the computer store told me to restore my outlook data by
importing it, and I figured they knew what they were doing.
I am not too late to undo the import if necessary, since I did it this
afternoon.

Is there a 'right way' to retrieve one's Outlook data after a reinstall?

Thanks for your help.

Do you still have the original PST file?
If so, you just open it or reset Outlook to use it to access all its data.
Take a look at these pages for info on Outlook data backup or transfer:
