You need to set a named range in the worksheet to cover all the rows and columns to be imported and then in Outlook's Import and Export wizard, click the Map Custom Fields button to tell Outlook which column's data to put into which Outlook property.

I am having the same problem. I am already doing what Sue suggests. I tried
several times. It starts to import, then fails. I export from Act ot Excel. As save the file as a standrad Excel Worksheet.
I have Act 2003 and Office 2003. I updated from Office 2000 a few weeks ago. I name the Columns in Excel, as required. I Import in Outlook from Excel to Outlook Contacts. I Mpa the Fileds, as required. The program starts Importing. After about 30 seconds, I get the standrads Windows Error Box that says the Program must close, etc. I get 10,000 fileds of blank contacts added to my exisitng contacts. My exisiting contacts do not change. Also, I cannot figure out how to save the Excel file as a *.csv file. "Karl Timmermans" wrote: Could you define exactly what "It starts to import, then fails" means? Specifically: #1) fails how? #2) With what error message? #3) do you also get an indeterminate number of blank contacts before "it fails" In the interests of time, if your import also results in blank contacts prior to failure, then the first issue would be the "named range" that's been defined. One quick thing that you can do to avoid the issue of "named range" is to save your worksheet as a CSV file and import that and see if your import still fails. #1 - How to save as a.csv file - with your worksheet open - from menu bar
click on ""File -- Save As" - select CSV as the file type in the window that pops up #2 - If you're getting 10,000 blank contacts - then the "Named Range" in use is not correctly set to include ONLY those rows & columns that you want to import. Naming columns is different than the "Named Range". If you're not familiar with "Named Ranges" and the objective is to get a file that will result in importing only the required data as quickly as possible - step #1 is the easiest and most straight-forward solution Karl __________________________________________________ _ Karl Timmermans - The Claxton Group ContactGenie - Importer 1.3 / DataPorter 2.0 / Exporter "Power contact importers/exporters for MS Outlook '2000/2007" http://www.contactgenie.com "Russell Pepe" wrote in message ... Thank you. I needed to delete my old Excel Contact file first. The CSV
method then worked. It was easy and worked. Thank you again.
