How sort contacts by email address
How can a sort messages by the email address. If I click on the "From"
field, it has messages listed by various alias (i.e. "File as"). The same email address can have several different alias', so I often can't find all the emails from one email address. It was suggested that I could "Right click on the column header, select Field Chooser and add the Account field.", however, this did not work. (The "Account" field in "All contact fields" does not show anything. There is an "Email Account" field, but that is who the email is sent "To". I want who it is sent "From" and the "From" field is listed by alias, not email address. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help Huck Rorick |

Since the From field is controlled by the sender and could be anything the
sender chooses, why would you ever want to sort on it? What's the point here? -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Huck" wrote in message ... How can a sort messages by the email address. Russ,
This problem also applies to"Sent" messages, and who you are sending messages to. If you "reply" to a message, then the "To" field will show one thing. If you send it from your address book, it can well show another. It is equally or more problematic to find all the messages sent to one email address. I apologize. I think this problem only occurs in the "sent" messages. That
is, the "To" field can vary. I am looking at specific examples now where the "To" field for the same email address is listed (and therefore sorted) in 3 different ways. You are simply proving my point. Sorting by the From field makes no sense.
To do what you want, use a search, find or advanced find. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Huck" wrote in message ... The point is that the message comes from an email address, for example . However, Outlook will show it in many different ways. It may show it as an "alias" such as "Russ Valentine". It may also display it as "'Russ Valentine" (note the extra single quote). I have the same person with the same email address that is displayed in the "From" field in 3-5 different ways.. Consequently, if you want to find all emails that came from it is very difficult and sometimes close to impossible if you don't know all the ways outlook has filed emails from that email address. It's a mess. I want a simple way to find all the emails that were sent from one email address. I don't have it now. Huck "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote in message ... I'm not sure I get your point Russ. Sorting on an email address is a very
simple thing (or should be). Actually, I made a mistake and emails received in the inbox are in fact sorted by email address, so that part is already done. The problem I encounter is in the Sent Items when I want to find all the messages sent "To" a particular email address. In this case Outlook does not file them by email address but by a number of inconsistent alias'. If Outlook simply put the email address the message was sent to in the "To", it would be simple to find all the emails sent to one email address. It doesn't and I can't find a way to make it do that. A Search or Advanced Find is an extremely slow way to locate all the emails sent to one person (or rather one email address). Huck "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote in message ... No it's not, and for the reason I've stated it makes a whole lot more sense
than sorting on the From field. I think you're using the wrong tool. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Huck" wrote in message ... I'm not sure I get your point Russ.
