Search contacts in phone list

I am having troubles searching for contacts. If I have the view on Address
Cards I can search by typing the name I want to find and outlook will
automatically go to that contact, however this does not seem to work when I
view it as a Phone List. When I start typing it will either creat a new
contact or change the name of a contact. Is there a way to search by typing
on the keyboard in the Phone List view like you can in the Address Cards view?

Yes - type in the little white window in the toolbar that says type a
Contact to find - then hit Enter.

The client does not like that, he wants it like the address cards where you
just type and it searches automatically. Is that possible?
