Problem with Contacts
I recently bought a new laptop and installed Office 2003 on the new system. I
was successful in moving all of my mail to the new system, save for my contacts. If I try to create a new name in the Address Book, I get an error message saying that I cannot add a new name and should use the Contacts module. If I try to do so in the Contacts module, I get an error message: "The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or deleted, or you do not have persmission. For information on how to remove this folder from the Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft Office Outlook help." However, there is nothing here that is of any help at all. (I even deleted the Contacts list and recreated it, thinking it might be corrupt. I cannot access the new one either.) Please help. |
Problem with Contacts
The message is correct. You should never use the Address Book view for
entering or editing data. Now you see why. Use the Contacts Folder instead (you still haven't done that). You corrupted the address book view by migrating your data incorrectly and will need to reset it. It is not unusual for the Outlook Address Book to “lose track” of the connection to its Contacts Folder when you move or import your PST incorrectly or update your Outlook version or operating system. Use the following steps to reset the connection. Note that in some instances you may actually have to remove the Outlook Address Book completely from your Profile, close Outlook, and then re-add it before you can get it to work. Make sure the Contact folder is enabled as an email address book. Right click the Contacts folder, choose Properties then Outlook Address Book. Is the box to enable as email address book checked? If this is grayed out...Go to Tools | Email Accounts, choose View or change existing directories or address book. Is the Outlook Address Book present? If it isn't listed, add it and close and restart Outlook. If it is listed, then remove it and close then restart Outlook and repeat these steps to add it.
