Default Outlook does not recognize name, '=smtp:[email protected]'

I am rebuilding from a crash which mostly affected Outlook 2003. I
have replaced some .dll's involving MAPI, and almost have it working
'normally', except when I try to send messages. If I send to someone
in my address book that Outlook recognizes, it adds '=smtp: to the
address '), and it sits in the outbox. If I
re-open the outbox message and delete the '=smtp: (and the trailing ' )
in the address, then it replys 'Outlook does not recognize one or more
names'. Same thing happens if I enter a valid address that isn't
already in my address book. If I retype the name so that Outlook
recognises the name, then it appends the '=smtp: back onto the front of
the address, and it continues to sit.

There is no information here that would permit an answer.
State the mail account type you are using.
State how you restored your Outlook data.
State why you had to replace individual DLL's instead of using Detect and
Repair. The odds against a successful repair that way are slim at best.
State how you are selecting your recipients when you send messages.

Using POP3 mail account

I moved the .pst file, then imported it after uninstalling Office and
reinstalling it.

Even after a COMPLETE reinstall (including reinstalling Windows as well
as Office), I continued to recieve an error that indicated MAPI32.dll
was corrupt. I tried 'Detect and Repair', including the 'repair'
option and the 'reinstall' option., neither helped. The recommended
'fixmapi.exe' did not fix it, and I discovered that O2003 uses mapi32
in a different location, and pulled in a copy off the installation
disk, which finally worked. Why 'detect and repair' didn't work
remains a mystery. I understand the slim odds, but nothing else worked
except the intervention of the Gods, and endless searching through
Microsoft KB.

Recipients are selected based on whom I wish to send messages to. As
stated in the intial Posting, I either type in an email address, such
as ', or select a name from my Address book, which
is 'recognized' as a valid address. But when the email message gets
'sent' to the Outbox, "=smtp:" is added to the front of the address so
that " is changed to ",
and it doesn't leave the outbox, even when Send/recieve is forced.

I also used ScanOST.exe and ScanPST.exe, once I found them, which
helped fix many problems.

Way too snarled a knot for me to unravel.
You still never mentioned why you uninstalled and reinstalled Office in the
first place. I can think of no reason to do so.
As usual, doing so solves nothing and makes any attempt to fix your original
problem impossible.

I had a coworker who was getting the same strange ocurrence on Outlook 2000.
However, our admins were in the middle of switching servers, and her profile
didn't carry over, for some reason. Plus, her account options weren't
properly configured (i.e. "Account disabled" checked, couldn't change
password, etc.) I don't if they rebuilt her Exchange account or what, but I
haven't heard of any more troubles...(okay, I know this doesn't sound very
helpful, but...)
