You don't import Outlook data. You can simply use the same data file.
The file you need is your Personal Folders file (*.pst) It's where all the mail, calendar, contacts etc are stored. Take a look at these pages for info on Outlook data backup or transfer: http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.htm http://www.howto-outlook.com/Howto/backupandrestore.htm http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/as...771141033.aspx -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "bernie" wrote in message ... Russ,
I've found if I open my Outlook 2003 .pst file and then see two Contacts folder within Contact, the new default Contacts folder in 2007 and the one that is in my 2003 .pst and I then attemtp to 'drag and copy' my contacts from the 2003 Contacts folder into the default 2007 Contacts folder Outlook overall then slows to a crawl and especially when creating a new message my type stalls and hangs. If I then delete the copied contacts from the 2007 Contacts folder the Outlook 2007 performance runs normally. The problem is keeping my old 2003 .pst around simply to get to my contacts is a causes me to have to scroll to that contact list every time I need to find a contact when say looking for a contact when hitting TO: in a message. Why do you have to "keep your old Outlook 2003 .pst around?" You should
simply copy the contents of its Contacts Folder into your new one. Then you can close your Outlook 2003 PST file from the profile. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "David Hale" wrote in message ... Russ,
I did just that and copied the contacts from the 2003 .pst into the contacts folder for the 2007 .pst and as soon as I did that the total Outlook 2007 software system slowed down to a crawl. I mentioned this in my original comments below. I have no idea why this causes an issue and if I then 'delete' all copied contacts out of the 2007 Contact folder, Outlook speeds back up. I notice this problems especially when editing new messages but the system generally hangs overall. Not a known issue. Sounds like a problem with one of the Contacts you copied
over. Have you tried repairing your PST file after you do the copying? -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "David Hale" wrote in message ... Russ,
I guess it could be a bad contact record. How does one run a repair of the PST file? David Hale "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: Not a known issue. If Outlook doesn't slow, you know what you copied is good. Copy another batch and another until Outlook slows. You know then the last batch you copied contains bad data. Back it out and reduce the size of the data you're copying. Eventually you'll find the item causing trouble, which you can recreate manually. -- Brian Tillman |
