I can't get Outlook 2007 to recognize my Address Book.
My contacts were transferred over from Outlook 2003. I can pull them up as
individual contacts but I can't get them in the Address book in 2007. I've gone to properties and it won't allow me to turn on the address book function. It is not available for my contacts. I tried sending my contacts to myself in Outlook form and then saving the contacts but that didn't work either. Does anyone have any suggestions? |

I used EZ file Transfer with a cable from an old desktop to my new laptop.
The (ToolsAcount SettingsAddress Book Tab is set to Outlook Address Book) when I try to add a folder it refers me back to the properties in my contacts folder to turn on the email address book but that option is not available. This is a known bug that we have reported and have posted here as often as
possible as a warning to others. You cannot use Windows Easy Transfer with Outlook. There is only one way you can transfer data from one installation of Outlook to another: copy your Outlook data file, open it in your new Outlook profile, then set it as your default and close the new data file Outlook created. At this point, you must create a new Outlook profile and use the above method to transfer your data to it. Once you do, you will be able to configure your Outlook Address Book. I had read up on it before and I did make a backup of my old outlook but
where do I copy them to. I tried importing them, didn't work. I've got vista and it won't allow me access to my Documents and settings. Where do I copy the files to and from? You need not be concerned over where you place the file. In fact it is
better if you do not try to place it in Outlook's default location. Just put in a location you'll remember and back up frequently. Never import an Outlook data file. Use the steps I posted instead. NEW: I can't get Outlook 2007 to recognize my Address Book.

I am having a similar problem. Following instructions from MVPs, I "opened" the .pst file that I had saved from before I reformatted the Hard Drive. That caused the creation of a NEW "Personal Folders" complete with Deleted items and Search Folders...which I don't need and clutters the window on the Left. Additionally, there are now 2 folders called Contacts -- #1: "Contacts" #2: "Contacts in Personal Folders". The second one has the data I need. However, it will not come up when I write an email. I tried the linking that was suggested yesterday in this thread, but the linking mechanism is looking for a ".PAB" extension and my file has extension ".PST". When I try the alternative, "Add an Outlook Address Book," it tells me there is none. Questions: 1. How can I get these addresses to be the default addresses? 2. Can I get rid of that extra Personal Files, or do I have to live with it? PS, I am on a stand-alone PC. Jane |

If you'll reread the instructions, you'll see that after you open the former
file, you must then set it as your default. There is simply no need to add another address book service. The Outlook
Address Book Service is already installed. That's what the message is telling you.
